Pastel Exploration 03/06/22

Oil pastels, or "Cray-Pas," is one of the easiest and most versatile mediums for kids to use. It allows for mixing and layering colors without getting too messy, and they are just so bright and versatile. For my oil pastel explorations workshop, students had asked to do "scratch art," and I also gave them mirrors to use for making a self-portraits. I provided them both with the with the Junior Artist set and the Multi-Cultural set, so they had a variety of colors and skin tones to explore. As usual the kids really pushed the mediums and the ideas further and combined some of the techniques of scratching the surface and mixing the colors. Here are some of their beautiful creations :)
